Carnelian is a semiprecious stone distinguished by its shades ranging from light orange to brownish-red. It is also known as sardius when it adopts a darker hue. It belongs to the quartz family. In the Bible, it adorns the breastplate (garment) of the high priest and represents one of the twelve tribes of Israel in Exodus 28:17 and Exodus 39:10. It also appears as the sixth stone in the foundations of the New Jerusalem according to Revelation 21:20. It is a powerful symbol of strength and divine glory.
